Honoree - Clifford N. Rosenthal

Clifford N. Rosenthal is the President of the New York-based National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions, where he has worked since 1980 and been President since 1983. With the rest of the financial services industry imploding, CDCUs demonstrate that community-based lending and savings institutions play an important role in securing and maintaining the financial health of lower income communities and their residents. Cliff’s twenty five years as head of a grassroots community-focused trade association is an accomplishment few others can claim, and is a testament to his dedication and commitment to our inner city and rural communities.

Mr. Rosenthal’s career accomplishments include growing the Community Development Credit Union (CDCU) sector to more than 200 institutions in 46 states, inspiring the formation of the federal CDFI Fund in the U.S. Treasury Department that has made almost $1 billion in equity and debt investments into CDCUs and community development financial institutions; and serving as a key agent in the creation of the New York State CDFI Fund.
