Honoree - Susan R. Jones
Susan R. Jones is the supervising attorney of the Small Business Clinic at George Washington University Law School, a position she has held since 1988. During these 21 years, her clinic has served hundreds of small businesses in the Washington, DC area and has trained hundreds of law students in the issues affecting small businesses located in and serving lower income communities. She has inspired many law students and lawyers to dedicate their time to helping these communities address their economic development challenges. Susan has held teaching positions at City University of New York (CUNY) Law School at Queens College and American University’s Washington College of Law, and in 2004 Jones served as the Haywood Burns Visiting Chair in Civil Rights at CUNY Queens, where she taught courses on community economic development and economic justice. She is the former senior editor and editor-in-chief of the ABA’s Journal of Affordable Housing and Community Development Law and she has written extensively about microenterprise and community economic development, co-authoring seminal publications in each of these areas that have guided the pro bono efforts of lawyers and law students.
