The California Elder Economic Security Initiative (Cal-EESI) is a statewide, research-driven initiative at the forefront of a national effort to ensure that older Californians have the resources to live with dignity and economic well-being in their own homes. Our goal is to transform the way we measure and address the economic needs of older adults throughout the entire country by replacing the flawed Federal Poverty Guidelines as the standard measure of economic need.
Cal-EESI is guided by a statewide steering committee comprised of policymakers, public agencies, nonprofit service organizations, advocacy groups, action researchers, and foundations. California’s initiative is part of a national movement, in partnership with Washington, D.C.-based Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW) and a growing number of states across the country. The initiative will produce a national database with county-level Elder Indices on all 50 states and the District of Columbia by 2012.
