Construction Sector Community of Practice

“Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.”

-- Etienne Wenger, author, Cultivating Communities of Practice:  a Guide to Managing Knowledge

Call for Applications
The application for the Construction Sector Community of Practice -- a project of the Aspen Institute, NNSP, and Public/Private Ventures funded by the National Fund for Workforce Solutions (NFWS) -- is now available.

To learn more and to access the application, click here.

Applications must be returned no later than October 17.

What is Provided?
The Construction Sector Community of Practice will connect people involved in construction sector initiatives from across the country and will facilitate knowledge exchange by providing:

  • online discussions
  • an online repository of information and tools
  • webinars
  • peer and individual mentoring
  • a conference in Washington, D.C., December 3-5

All on-site costs for the conference (e.g. meals and lodging) will be paid by the project. Participants will be expected to cover their own travel expenses.

Who Should Apply?
NFWS encourages construction sector initiatives that receive support from regional workforce funder collaboratives to apply.  We also welcome applications from other construction sector initiatives.

Applicants should be in a position within their organizations or projects to use learning from the community of practice to affect the work of their organization.  After the December conference, members may invite colleagues and partners to participate in online aspects of the community as they choose.
