In Case You Missed Them -
Recent NNSP Webinars

NNSP webinars in the past three months have addressed some of the important topics facing sector initiatives today: the growing green economy, sector initiatives and communities of color, structural change in the public workforce system, and the research case for sector initiatives.

These are also among the important themes of our upcoming national conference, and these webinars offer a glimpse at likely conference workshops.

In case you missed them the first time around, see below for a description of each, along with links to recordings, slideshows, and supporting materials.

Re-working Workforce Development:
Chicago's Sector-Based Workforce Centers

Do Chicago's sector-based workforce centers offer a model for reshaping the local workforce system?

Job Training That Works:
Findings from the Sectoral Employment Impact Study

This online NNSP member meeting addresses the first-ever random-assignment study of the effectiveness of sector initiatives and how it can be used to promote and build support for them.

Workforce Trends and Needs
in the Energy Efficiency Sector

In 2009, the San Francisco Bay and Greater Silicon Valley Centers of Excellence studied eight energy efficiency occupations that are most relevant to community colleges. Employers in the 12-county Bay Area are projected to add as many as 13,000 new jobs over the next three years in this cluster of occupations.

This webinar presents findings from the study related to demand and growth in eight energy efficiency occupations based on survey responses from more than 700 firms that hire energy efficiency workers.

In addition, the webinar compares employment demand with existing and planned community college programs to prepare workers for these occupations and will identify gaps in existing training. Finally, the webinar suggests strategies community colleges and other institutions can use to respond to identified industry needs.

Presenters:

  • John Carrese, San Francisco Bay Region Center of Excellence
  • Laura Coleman, Northern California Centers of Excellence
